President Gu Haitao led a temporary working team to visit Jamaica and the United States between June 30 and July 13, 2014.
During the visit in Jamaica, the team listened to the work report given by Pan-Caribbean Sugar Company, inspected the farms, factories and stores at Bernard Lodge, Monymusk and Frome divisions, conducted comprehensive analysis of the operation of Pan-Caribbean Sugar Company as well as the issues hindering the development of the Company, discussed and identified priorities for now and the next stage, and made work arrangements regarding the identified priorities accordingly. The team also inspected the factory upgrading project sites at Monymusk and Frome divisions. After looking into project progress, quality and the safety measures, President Gu asked all parties to collaborate in ensuring project quality and schedule. The team also listened to the work report given by the Jamaican Housing project Management team of COMPLANT Ltd and inspected both the northern and southern project sites.
During their stay in Jamaica, the team also paid an official call to the Chinese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Jamaica Mr. Dong Xiaojun, the Chinese Economic and Commercial Counselor in Jamaica Mrs. Liu Lei and Jamaican government officials including the Minister of Energy, and exchanged views with them on the operation of the Company’s current projects in Jamaica and other related issues.
During their stay in the USA, the team took a look at the operation of the drip irrigation system manufactured by AG-TRONIX Company, discussed with US Sugar Corporation the development of its sugarcane farms, its management system and operational concepts, gave them an introduction of COMPLANT, especially the development of COMPLANT’s investment in sugar industry, and conducted a site visit to see US Sugar Corporation’s sugarcane production, field management, sugarcane transportation and factory processing.
Through this visit, the team gained a timely understanding of the current operation of Pan-Caribbean Sugar Company, gave suggestions to PCSC Management regarding the resolution of some issues, and assisted in pushing forward the implementation of relevant works. The team also learned the advanced sugarcane cultivation methods and agriculture management philosophy from the world-leading Sugar Manufacturing Enterprise, which the Company will bear in mind in advising overseas sugar estates to strengthen their agricultural management and setting development targets for them.
